Company promotes trucker health through its partnership with SleepSafe to combat sleep apnea
In an effort to promote trucker health, J.B. Hunt Transport Services entered an agreement with SleepSafe Drivers to provide sleep apnea and sleep disorder services to its drivers, Fleet Owner reports.
The system will use its On-Site TM Diagnostic Ambulatory testing and Sure Compliance treatment program to help deliver its service.
"We have documented significant improvement in the retention of drivers working with SleepSafe Drivers, with 86 percent still employed and successful with auto-setting positive airway pressure (APAP) treatment at the 12-month phase of the program," Greer Woodruff, senior vice president of safety and security at J.B. Hunt, told the news source.
Officials added that if a driver tests positive for sleep apnea, he or she will then be enrolled in the Sure Compliance treatment program which includes an APAP device with wireless monitoring. Furthermore, they will also be provided with a sleep apnea coach to ensure long-term therapy.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, more than 18 million adults have sleep apnea. Drivers who are overweight, use tobacco or consume alcohol regularly may be more at risk for this condition than others.
