ATA CEO asks government for more road repair funding

Created: Thursday, January 26th, 2012 01:01 pm

With many highways across the United States needing repairs, Bill Graves, president and CEO for American Trucking Associations, believes that real funding is needed from the government for the necessary improvements on these roads.

Trucker health is on the line, as thousands of truckers navigate the nation's roads on their routes each day. After listening to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address, Graves is urging the administration and Congress to step up with these funds.

"Right now, the country doesn't need more empty promises and rhetoric about the importance of repairing roads and bridges as a way to put Americans back to work," said Graves. "What the country needs is money - money from real sources, not promises of private investment or redirected savings."

Seattle is stepping up its funding for road repair and working to fix the city's pothole problem, which was worsened by a recent winter storm.

Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn said he is sending out more crews to fix the problem before any more drivers are affected.
