Trucking companies looking towards offering specialized services

Although many trucking companies offer general services to haul freight, some are finding that focusing their efforts on specific products is proving to be lucrative. According to The Green Bay Press Gazette, fleet management owner are changing the way they make investments in their businesses by branching out into specific hauling industries, which seems to be benefiting these companies in the long run.

For example, the Valley Transfer and Storage company based out of Wisconsin used to offer a wide range of trucking services to its customers. Then, owner Jeff Trudell realized they may profit by hauling only paper pulp, discovering a beneficial focus that has raised their profit over the last few years, despite having to invest in some new equipment.

"I think the smaller carriers, 1,000 trucks or less, are going to have to focus on their specialty freight and get those niche markets to really survive long term," Trudell told the news source.

Another niche service that is growing in the trucking industry is simply moving people’s discarded material, reports The Kansas City Star. Some companies have moved over to this specialized service, following in step with one of Kansas City’s most successful junk hauling business, which enjoys a 20 percent growth rate every year.
