Truckers and consumers weigh in on predictions for the holiday season
The holiday season may seem like it is very far away, but many truckers know that this time of year begins on the road much earlier than in stores. Some professionals in the trucking industry are looking forward to the busier hauling period, while others are concerned that uncertain economic times may put a damper on demand, reports Fleet Owner.
A recent survey by the Deloitte LLP organization found that the majority of consumers polled say they plan on maintaining their spending this holiday season or buying more than last year. Although more say they will be increasing their expenditures, the other 42 percent who plan on spending less may balance out any hopeful increase in material demand, which could, in turn, affect the trucking industry and the need for hauling freight.
According to Forbes, those looking for some extra holiday income can take advantage of the increase in freight demand by finding a trucking job. If individuals have not completed their CDL training yet, they may still find positions within the trucking industry, such as partnering with a UPS driver and assisting in the delivery of seasonal packages.
