TravelCenters of America to add new card-less fueling options at rest stops

Created: Wednesday, December 14th, 2011 04:01 pm

Truckers may soon have an easier time refueling when taking a pit stop at the TravelCenters of America. The company announced that it will be installing special programs that allow truck drivers to fill their big rigs quickly and card-lessly.

Called the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), this initiative may change the way truckers and fleet managers handle how their vehicles are run. Special RFID tags can be put into the trucks, so when they pull up to fueling centers, all data is automatically recalled and trucks are fueled accordingly. This can save time at the pump and help the overall logistics of a company become more streamlined.

"Today's announcement is yet another example of the things TravelCenters of America is doing to help our customers drive efficiency," Thomas O'Brien, chief executive officer of TravelCenters, said in a statement. "Fuel Island Manager's RFID capabilities will provide a faster, easier and more controlled transaction environment to the trucking industry across the U.S. Interstate Highway system."

Commercial drivers who have recently completed their CDL training may want to consider utilizing advanced technology like this, which could help them finish their hauls more efficiently and affordably.
