Pioneering event to educate truckers on social media benefits

When a trucker is off-duty, he or she may turn to the computer to relax and use the internet. An upcoming convention this fall in Mississippi will educate truck drivers on how to go a step further and use the web and social media to better their careers, health and trucking safety, reports Land Line.

The first annual Truck Driver Social Media Convention will take place in October and is hosted by members of the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA). The goal of the event is to introduce ways that drivers can interact with fellow industry fans through websites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Experts will also show how networking and grouping together online can grab the attention of trucking lawmakers.

Donna Smith, member of the OOIDA, says she looks forward to the positive impact this program will make on truck drivers from across the country.

"The convention is an opportunity for drivers to unite and be able to have discussions with industry experts," she told the news source.

According to Overdrive, officials from various fields will have an open forum at the end that will allow participants to ask questions about topics such as employment and business strategies.
