New truck technology automatically adjusts speed for traffic flow

Truckers know that when they are navigating the nation's highways, keeping up with the flow of traffic can sometimes be a challenge. However, Volvo has recently developed new technology that can assist drivers with this conundrum, ensuring further truck driving safety measures for the future.

According to MSN Autos, the new development is called the Active Prediction System and can be installed in some new big rig models. This radar-like feature detects cars and other vehicles in front of the truck and adjusts the speed accordingly. The idea was created through the use of 3-D terrain mapping and GPS technology.

The adaptive cruise control will only slow trucks down and not speed them up, which may prevent potential collisions, reports a YouTube video by Volvo. Brakes are activated automatically if the driver has initiated the internal device through a switch in the cabin that is attached to the turn indicator lever.
