New technology allows trucking companies to comply with mandates

NavStar Technologies recently developed another fleet management tool for the trucking industry, which will allow companies to track and monitor their driver hours more effectively.

The new development is Electronic On Board Recorders, which will satisfy a new mandate from the Department of Transportation that requires trucking companies to electronically record the number of hours of service by each driver.

"There are more than 18 million trucks in the U.S., and when coupled with the DOT mandate to electronically record hours of service, this is a market segment we plan to aggressively pursue in 2012," said N. Douglas Pritt, chairman and CEO of NavStar. "Our technology hardware platform is being designed with flexibility so that features can be added to satisfy specific market requirements."

If all goes as planned for NavStar, the company will be able to see $3.5 million in revenue over the new year as a result of these new federal mandates.

Another fleet management platform adding new customers in the new year is TomTom, which recently gained 15,000 new customers who currently manage more than 175,000 vehicles.
