New air conditioning unit for trucks helps the environment, keeps drivers cool

Many truckers like to take their breaks inside their big rig cabins, which can sometimes use up excessive energy to power electronics and truck systems. However, the Red Dot Corporation has developed an upgraded A/C unit that can run on batteries, which means drivers no longer have to idle their trucks when wanting to keep cool.

Called the Sleeping Well Arctic 2000 Plus, this modernized system can reduce power used by traditional air conditioners by roughly 26 percent, saving fleet management owners revenue while keeping their drivers comfortable as they rest.

The A/C battery can last for about 10 to 12 hours, letting drivers snooze peacefully without releasing harmful emissions into the air or wasting gas.

Owners who consider this system for their fleet may also be eligible for grants or rebates through the Shorepower Truck Electrification Project, which is supported and maintained by Cascade Sierra Solutions and the U.S Department of Energy. Having these battery-powered A/C units may, overall, bolster the nationwide goals of improving trucker health while protecting the environment.
