New York trucking company owes Massachusetts government transport fees

Sometimes mishaps can happen while on the road even if a trucker has undergone recurrent hazmat training. Recently, there was an issue in Massachusetts with the state's Attorney General Martha Coakley and a New York trucking company over hazardous material fees. This instance is a great example for truckers to learn from when it comes to the importance of trucking safety and compliance.

When trucking businesses cross state boarders, they sometimes have to pay special fees for transporting their fright, especially if it is classified as hazardous, such as fuel or harmful chemicals. This New York company allegedly did not pay the required costs to transport their freight and Massachusetts officials are looking to have these fees paid accordingly.

Payments have not been made for a few years, which has caused them to accumulate to at least $300,000. When the company is able to cover the costs, they can use Massachusetts highways to haul their freight again.

Fleet management owners should keep up with the fees that are required when moving hazardous materials across state lines. If this is not done, it could cost the company additional fines and cause unnecessary stress in the working environment.
