Magellan recently announced its plans to enter the Commercial Transportation Navigation GPS market, showcasing the new Magellan RoadMate Commercial 5190T GPS navigator to commercial drivers.

"The RoadMate Commercial is designed to satisfy the navigation and fleet management needs of the commercial vehicle industry," said Sunnie Tsai, director of product marketing at Magellan GPS. "It provides companies and owners with the tools to improve productivity, reduce costs, and ultimately increase their profits."

With its 5-inch, color, high-definition touchscreen, truckers will be able to easily view their maps on the 5190T, as well as utilize features such as a built-in speaker and wireless Bluetooth technology.

While GPS devices can improve fleet management and driver safety, it's important for truckers to use common sense when driving by GPS. A recent audit of GPS-enabled fire and garbage trucks in New York City found many of the newly installed custom-made GPS units were giving faulty information, such as indicating that safely parked trucks were in Long Island Sound, reported The New York Times.
