Bayside Transportation Inc. was recently awarded the Grand Champion Trophy for Fleet Safety by the Maine Motor Transport Association, at the group's annual meeting, reported the Ellsworth American, a newspaper serving Hancock County, Maine.

Showing excellence in trucking safety, Bayside Transportation was given the Grand Champion Award for outstanding safety in the under-4 million miles category, said the newspaper.

As companies like Bayside seek to sustain their records of excellence and other trucking enterprises look for ways to boost performance, they can consider a wide array of tech products being innovated to take trucking safety and fleet management into the 21st century. One such product is the in-vehicle PC created by Portwell, according to eWeek.com.

The vehicle PC is called the PTH-2080A, which runs Windows XP Embedded and features an eight-inch resistive touchscreen, 1 gigabyte of DDR2 RAM and a full range of wireless radios, said the website.

According to the website, the new device was created to integrate a truck's engine data, location information, video images and sensory data, in order to allow trucking companies to better manage fleet members that are out on the road.

The device-maker also factored in visibility of the vehicle PC during the daytime, making the screen sunlight-readable with 600-nit brightness, said the site.
