Survey finds truckers not sure of the new CSA rules

Truck driving safety is often one of the key aspects of the industry that is on the mind of those behind the wheel. Drivers have the important job of ensuring that other motorists and themselves are kept protected on the nation's highways through frequent equipment checks, recurrent hazmat training and CDL training.

Recently, The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) surveyed commercial drivers and explored their knowledge of Compliance, Safety and Accountability (CSA) regulations. The questionnaire found that many truckers strive to drive safe, but are unaware of the specific rules that pertain to the industry's laws.

For example, more than 77 percent of truck drivers surveyed do not know if new hires and their past violations negatively affect trucking business who take them on as employees. Due to some of the confusion, a majority of truckers are worried about losing their jobs if they do not adhere to CSA rules, especially since they are unaware of many of these restrictions.

More than 4,500 truck drivers were questioned for the study. The CSA 2010 compliance regulations were initiated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration for the first time last year.
