Nebraska seeking qualified truckers for many open positions

Created: Wednesday, January 25th, 2012 01:01 pm

According to Omaha, Nebraska, ABC affiliate KETV, there are a large number of available truck driving and delivery jobs in the area, as evidenced by statistics from the Nebraska Department of Labor.

"In the next few years, probably two to four years, we're going to see a lot of us retiring. And we have to replace those drivers," Rick Sandvig, CDL training instructor, told the news source. "We can use anywhere from 2,000 to 10,000 drivers right away just in Nebraska."

The source said in order to fill these positions, Metropolitan Community College is holding a career fair that experienced truck drivers with the necessary CDL training should attend if they are looking for work.

The community college offers an eight-week CDL course, which can add to the potential trucking workforce that can start working at the available jobs in the area. For greater convenience, those interested in pursuing a career in trucking can complete online CDL training.

Employers hiring new drivers may also want to investigate online CDL training options, which make it easy to assign drivers to programs and track their progress.
