High-tech systems could improve truck driving safety

Created: Thursday, January 6th, 2011 01:01 pm

CSA 2010 - which was implemented last month - includes several new mandates for safety directors and their fleets. Some individuals may find this new set of rules daunting, and worry that they will unknowingly violate one of the regulations.

Fortunately, there are many ways for transportation professionals to ensure that they are complying with the law. Online truck driving regulation training opportunities are available to truckers who wish to stay abreast of new rules in their industry.

Additionally, some companies have recently developed technological devices that can enable commercial vehicle operators to stay safe and compliant.

For instance, inthinc Technology Solutions recently released a new touchscreen driver interface that is intended to improve trucking safety. The device, which works with the company's waySmart commercial driving safety program, can provide driver alerts, vehicle locator and diagnosis services as well as fleet management capabilities, according to company officials.

The developers of this system have designed it to be in line with CSA 2010, and its capabilities will be updated as all related regulations are finalized. Operators who couple similar tools with online truck driver training courses may be more likely to perform their jobs safely and efficiently.
