FMCSA to address specific trucker safety issues in future study
Although statistics about driver mishaps as a whole are useful, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) plans to dig deeper into this issue by studying the individual habits of commercial drivers throughout the country. According to Trucking Info, this future data will help both drivers and fleet management owners better understand risky behaviors on the road that need to be addressed when handling the trucker safety problems occurring in the industry.
The overall goal of this project is to determine which specific habits are the most hazardous to all drivers using the nation's roadways and what may be done to fix these bad practices. Data collected will identify these issues and categorize them in order of importance and severity so that future FMCSA rules can coincide with these findings.
Government Technology reports that the FMCSA plans to compare the actions of 21,000 drivers and roughly 6,000 separate occurrences of dangerous habits to explore solutions towards ensuring trucker health and safety on the roads. Experts in the field of transportation safety will also be questioned during this extensive study.
