Conference weighs in on importance of CSA rules

Created: Friday, September 23rd, 2011 04:01 pm

Due to the Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) initiative being within a few years of its initial inception, the issues and regulations are still being scrutinized to ensure that the rules are beneficial to all truckers throughout the nation. According to Fleet Owner, a recent conference was held by J.J. Keller & Associates and GE Capital Fleet Services to discuss the benefits and problems revolving around the 2010 CSA compliance program.

Mark Catlin, J.J. Keller's national account executive, said he thinks the CSA is a long-lasting program that has made trucking regulatory standards easier to understand.

"Though CSA will continue to change and evolve, it is here to stay," he said. "So [fleet management owners] need to do everything [they] can to drive [their] CSA scores down lower than [their] peers."

The CSA program aims to improve truck driving safety throughout the U.S. to make sure all motorists who use the roadways are protected, states the Department of Transportation's website. By utilizing various support methods, including offering resources and outlining laws and adaptation, the CSA's goals will continue to evolve and be beneficial to truckers in the long run.
