CSA training may become necessary for truckers

Created: Wednesday, February 29th, 2012 01:01 pm

An internet-based driver school recently announced a Compliance, Safety, Accountability  training program, which will give drivers with CDL training the opportunity to learn about ways to improve truck driving safety, as well as other issues in the trucking industry.

CSA is an initiative created by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration that focuses on ways to improve road safety and reduce the number of crashes on U.S. roadways.

"With the new FMCSA initiative well underway, companies have a duty to make their drivers aware of their roles and increased responsibilities under CSA," said Rob Martin, vice president of sales for the driver training company.

Drivers who take part in the program will be assessed according to the Behavior Analysis & Safety Improvement Categories, which can limit driver fatigue, as well as cut down on the number of drivers who use drugs or drink before or during their routes.

According to Fleet Equipment magazine, CSA is still not finalized, but is slowly becoming an acceptable program for fleets, and it comes at a time when accidents involving trucks have steadily decreased.
