CSA rules under scrutiny

Created: Tuesday, October 4th, 2011 04:01 pm

Since the Compliance, Safety and Accountability (CSA) initiative began to alter rules in the trucking industry last year, several organizations have been working hard to ensure that the new regulations are followed for truck driving safety purposes. The U.S. Government Accountability Office, known as the GAO, has been scrutinizing many aspects of the new implementations to make sure this program is benefiting all drivers on the roads in positive ways, states the organization's website.

Officials from the GOA are concerned that some of the statements made by representatives of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) have not been followed through, even though the original CSA initiative was released in 2010. However, the rules are still being experimented with to see which features work the best for motorist safety.

Truckers who have completed their CDL training coursework and are beginning their new careers on the road may also consider researching these new CSA rules. By being well-informed about the regulations, drivers can understand how to best navigate their big rigs while staying within federal rules and guidelines.
