CSA 2010 implemented despite opposition from members of the industry
Although many small trucking organizations attempted to stall the launch of CSA 2010, the program has been launched on schedule, The Trucker reports.
Earlier this month, some transportation groups attempted to block the measure in federal court. These organizations expressed concerns that the program - which entailed the public release of carrier ratings - could tarnish some companies' reputations.
However, the court ruled that these advocates of the trucking industry could not sufficiently show that the release of these rankings would irreversibly harm their business, or that the public interest would be negatively impacted.
This ruling is in line with the FMCSA's argument that CSA 2010 "does not establish or amend any law, standard or rule," and is intended to concentrate "the agency's limited resources where they are needed most," according to the news source.
In the coming months, the Safety Fitness Determination Notice of Proposed Rulemaking aspect of CSA 2010 is slated to be released, the program's website reports. In addition, enforcement staff members will undergo additional training so that they may carry out new interventions in each state.
