Truckers are scratching their heads over some CSA laws
The Compliance, Safety and Accountability (CSA) program initiated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in 2010 has made great strides in recent months. However, many new truckers who have recently finished their CDL training and those who have been on the road for years still remain confused about some of the basic rules.
The project was put into place to ensure better truck driving safety and keep all motorists protected on the nation’s highways. This has improved many factors of safety in the industry, but it still leaves some drivers confused about the specifics.
For example, more than 70 percent of drivers said in the survey by the American Transportation Research Institute that they thought the FMCSA could take away a CDL license, which is untrue. Another 78 percent thought that trucking companies inherit past violations of their new hires, when in reality they do not carry over to a driver’s new company.
Truckers who are still unsure about some of the CSA laws could take some coursework in compliance safety for truck drivers to keep up with new regulations that need to be followed on the road.
