Goodyear looks for Hero nominations
Goodyear tire provider is now accepting nominations for its 2012 North America Highway Hero Award. Submissions for the award will be collected through January 31, 2013, and should provide many exemplary truck drivers with the opportunity to be recognized for their superior performance in trucker safety, fleet management or other industry achievements.
The Goodyear North America Highway Hero Award honors truck drivers who put themselves in harm's way to protect other people. The winner of the Hero Award will receive $5,000, a custom Goodyear Highway Hero ring and other prizes, while those who nominate the winning trucker will be awarded $1,000. Next year will be the 30th anniversary of the awards.
"The Goodyear Highway Hero Award is the first - and most prestigious - award of its kind," said Phillip Kane, vice president of Goodyear Commercial Tire Systems. "The 30th anniversary of the award will be extra special, and we look forward to crowning an equally special winner."
In order to be considered for the Hero Award, truck drivers must be a full-time employee, live in the United States or Canada, be involved in a heroic incident in North America and must have performed the act of heroism while on the job. At the time of the incident, the nominated truck driver must had been operating at least 12 wheels, and completed the act of heroism between November 16, 2011, and December 15, 2012.
A past winner was awarded the recognition and cash prize for pulling an elderly man from a car before an oncoming train destroyed it. Another driver was acknowledged for rescuing two girls who were trapped inside a burning car.
