Recently, truckers nationwide were encouraged to take a break from being behind the wheel and attending CDL training courses and take pen to paper for the annual Truck Driver Appreciation Contest, sponsored by Driver Solutions and eGears. The winner of the competition wrote an impressive essay on the significance of the trucking industry, and will be recognized for his efforts along with the other top essayists.
Due to the large number of participants, a twofold increase since last year, three top winners were chosen as well as an honorable mention. Charles Rimmer was one of the top prize recipients who likened truck driving to the working parts of the human body. All three winners received WalMart Gift cards for their efforts.
"It’s crucial to cherish each of these individuals who are away from their families and on the road, day in and day out," Kari Yerkes, one of the judges for the contest from Driver Solutions, said in a statement. "Without their dedication, we wouldn’t have what we need to survive in such a timely, convenient way."
More than 75 entries were received this year from family and friends of truckers nationwide and the drivers themselves to tell their stories about a career on the road.
