Trucking companies across the country are making moves towards fueling their trucks with alternative means of energy. For example, the Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) has announced its plans to add 1,000 big rigs and small commercial vehicles to its fleet, all of which are powered by natural gas.
These new trucks have been approved by the California Air Resources Board and will help improve the environmental quality along the routes taken by this business. So far, SoCalGas has 1,000 natural gas trucks and they will add the additional trucks over the next few years.
"Natural gas is the ideal fuel for transportation because it's abundant, affordable, clean and produced domestically, and can serve all segments of the transportation industry," Hal D. Snyder, vice presidents of customer solutions at SoCalGas, said in a statement.
Not only does natural gas save trucking companies money, but experts say there is a hundred year supply in the U.S., which means it can be available for businesses both large and small. Fleet management owners may wish to consider investing in new natural gas-run equipment, which could be financially and environmentally beneficial in the long run.
